2006 Free BBQ for the Meeteetse National Day of the American Cowboy Celebration

Good Friends, Good Food and the Best of Times was had by all at the 2006 Meeteetse National Day of the American Cowboy Celebration.  After a day of book signing, much laughter and a historic parade, in the evening the crowd congregated at the Oasis Motel campground on the river to partake in more stories, food and fun.  A free BBQ was provided compliments of the Committee, with locals bringing a covered dish - just like in the good ole' days.  More than 350 people enjoyed the fixins' and entertainment that day.  Clay Gibbons gave a presentation of the cowboy poem he wrote just for the event.  His poem was published in the March issue of American Cowboy magazine. After Clay's story tellin' the crowd continued with long tales of days gone by while enjoying the background music of a local band.  The pictures below show some of the many conversations that were shared.  A log was branded with the various brands of the local ranches.  Many participated in a silent auction with donations by some of the ranchers and cowboys. In 2007 Clay will entertain us once again with more history of the local area and Cooper and the Crowd Thinners will play some toe stompin' music.  Free BBQ, silent auction and more brandings will be on the schedule for the 2007 Celebration.
